GMAW/FCAW control system allows point-of-use voltage control more than 100 ft. from power source

Miller Electric Mfg. Co. has introduced the XMT® Weld Cable Control (WCC) system, which comprises an XMT 350 or XMT 456 multiprocess welding inverter, a voltage-sensing SuitCase® X-TREME™ WCC wire feeder, and a WCC.
The GMAW/FCAW system allows welders working more than 100 ft. away from the welding power source to adjust voltage settings at the point of use. This helps eliminate control cables that are prone to damage in an industrial setting while allowing welders to remain at the work location while changing voltage.
The system uses digital serial communication technology to send voltage commands from the wire feeder to the control over the welding cable. The control then commands the power source. SuitCase VS wire feeders can be mixed and matched with any WCC-equipped power source or control. The feeder’s digital meter shows actual voltage levels when welding hundreds of feet from the power source. Voltage levels drop over long distances, but being able to see the actual voltage level as it exists at the point of use allows the welder to adjust the voltage accordingly to compensate for the drop.
