GTAW machine’s touch-start feature controls, identifies weld location

Amada Miyachi America Inc. has announced that its MAWA-300A pulsed micro GTAW machine now features a touch start feature that controls and identifies weld location. The unit is suitable for welding small coils and terminals, bus bars, and covered wires as found in the automotive, medical, battery, and electronics industries. It also has a pulsation feature that reduces porosity.
The new touch-start feature is designed for welding extremely delicate parts. The tungsten electrode is lowered until it just touches the workpiece. The electrode then retracts and a low-voltage arc is fired. The torch further retracts to the welding position and fires as scheduled. This better defines the arc’s position and allows a lower start arc to generate the arc.
The power supply, which delivers 30 to 300 amps of output power, can weld conductive metals and dissimilar materials. Its monitoring function identifies process errors by checking the upper and lower limits of the current and the waveform envelope.
