Complex carbide hardface welding alloy resists extreme abrasion, heat

Postle Industries has introduced a complex carbide hardfacing alloy that resists extreme abrasion. It is available as a flux-cored wire (Postalloy 2836-SPL) and tubular electrode (Postalloy 218HD).
The high-hardness, multicarbide welding alloys withstand high-stress grinding, low-stress scratching, and gouging abrasion. It maintains its hardness and wear resistance up to 1,400 degrees F. The weld deposit will check crack readily and outperforms straight chromium carbide hard surfacing alloys, according to the manufacturer.
The chemistry is highly tolerant of dilution. One layer will outwear two layers of ordinary chrome carbide; in some applications the wear is equal to tungsten carbide, the company says. Spatter level is low with very little slag.
The alloys can be used on carbon, manganese, 300 series stainless, and low-alloy steels.
