Vertical rolling, welding equipment aids tank manufacturing

Carell Corp. offers Imcar vertical bending and welding equipment for tank manufacturing. The semiautomatic vertical systems combine economy of motion, reduced material handling, optimization of space, and multitasking capabilities, the company reports.

Coil stock is fed vertically into the vertical plate roll machines, vertical plasma cutting machines, and vertical welding machines. All separate material handling steps of traditional horizontal production methods are eliminated between steps. Welding is reduced to one seam for any given diameter required. According to the company, two operators can achieve maximum throughput in minutes as opposed to hours.

The vertical welding stations use technology designed for simultaneous weld seam alignment, automated welding, weld compression, and cleaning. Two operators can achieve maximum throughput in hours as opposed to days, the manufacturer states.

The vertical systems are designed for shop or field use and can produce tank diameters up to 200 ft. and plate thicknesses up to 1 in.
